These Are the Celebrities Joining the NFL in Their #TakeAKnee Protests

Last Friday, President Trump spoke out against the anthem protests that have been rising in popularity during NFL games. After he discouraged the protests, dozens of players opted to kneel during the national anthem at Sunday's games in retaliation.

Since the #TakeAKnee campaign reached an all-time high, people across the nation have expressed their opinions on the matter. According to a recent national survey, most people are vastly against the anthem protests. However, there are a few that are standing in support of the protests and are doing so loudly.

While not all celebrities hold the same opinion, it is no secret that many Hollywood stars stand in opposition to President Trump. Now, many of them are taking a knee on social media to show their support of the anthem protests.

On Tuesday, famous TV producer Shonda Rhimes and several stars of “Grey’s Anatomy” knelt together. Rhimes posted a photo on her Instagram account, saying that they were taking a knee “in solidarity of racial justice.” Rhimes is featured in the photo alongside Ellen Pompeo, Jesse Williams, and Debbie Allen.

Pompeo posted the same photo. She said, “We kneel because we are supposed to be one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

When one of Williams’ followers threatened to boycott the hit show, Williams responded by saying that it would amount to nothing more than a threat. He said, “You’ve already tried this. No one’s scared of u. Also, u follow me.” He then told the follower to watch the season premiere later this week.

Other celebrities have been making similar statements. Actress Olivia Wilde joined her "1984" Broadway musical cast to take a knee during a recent curtain call.

Many musicians simply posted about their solidarity with the NFL on social media. John Legend, Pharrell Williams, and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs all expressed their support of the protests.

Other celebrities that have encouraged people to take a knee are Ellen DeGeneres, Conan O'Brien, Michael Moore, Samuel L. Jackson, J.K. Rowling, Seth Meyers, and several more.
