President Trump's State of the Union address, was of course, highly anticipated. With a passionately divided country and an antagonistic media ready to pounce on Trump, tensions were high.
The Democrats even organized women into wearing all white, to show that their feminist measures (largely in regards to abortion) would not be retracted. But Trump was not at all intimidated, and neither was his wife Melania, who stunned in a dark suit--it classy opposition to the white dress code.
The President spoke out boldly in regards to abortion, condemning the recent abortion legislation that allows for full-term abortions. His statements were more boldly pro-life than many of his other pro-life predecessors.
“There could be no greater contrast to the beautiful image of a mother holding her infant child than the chilling displays our nation saw in recent days. Lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother's womb moments before birth,” the president said to great applause.
“These are living, feeling, beautiful babies who will never get the chance to share their love and dreams with the world. And then, we had the case of the governor of Virginia where he stated he would execute a baby after birth. To defend the dignity of every person, I am asking Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother's womb,” he continued. “Let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life. And let us reaffirm a fundamental truth — all children — born and unborn— are made in the holy image of God.”
The fact that Trump rightly called it execution is amazing. But what Franklin Graham appreciated most was Trump's clear commitment to keeping our nation free from socialism. On his Facebook page, Graham thanked the President for his address and his clear values: "Thank you Mr. President for covering the priorities of our nation so clearly in your State of the Union address. It is my prayer that all Americans would support working together in a bipartisan way to solve the problems we face. It’s not about Republican and Democrat—it’s about doing what is right. Thank you for defending freedom and affirming that America will never be a socialist country," wrote Graham.
“America was founded on liberty and independence and not government coercion, domination and control," Trump said. "We are born free and we will stay free. Tonight, we renew our resolve that America will never be a Socialist country,” Trump vowed, as Republicans heavily applauded and Nancy Pelosi sat looking unhappy.
Graham's post was heavily liked, with commenters applauding Trump's values. One commenter wrote: "A most amazing speech by President Trump. Made me proud to be an American. Thank you God and thank you Mr. President!"
Another commenter said: "I was most pleased when he spoke up for the unborn children! The other points he made were what I hoped as well, but he really did it... He spoke up on behalf of the most vulnerable!"
