President Trump has made decisive action against Planned Parenthood in the short time he has been in office. His administration has successfully empowered states to withdraw funding from the abortion giant.
Since Trump has been in office, Planned Parenthood has definitely been shaking in their boots. So a secret meeting, asked for by Ivanka Trump weeks after her father's inauguration, with Planned Parenthood's Cecile Richards was certainly very encouraging to them.
Richards considered it "an explainer meeting," shares Politico, in which she would explain how the organization deserves to keep getting funded.
“The main thing that Cecile Richards was doing was explaining that the money doesn’t actually go to abortions — we get reimbursed the same way a hospital does. We were clearing up misinformation about how this works," said Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
But the meeting did not impact Ivanka in the way Richards was hoping. She apparently was optimistic that the First Daughter would speak out publicly in support of Planned Parenthood and against her father's move to defund it, but that has not happened.
And so Richards has taken shots at Ivanka for it. She called Trump's silence "deafening" and said at the Women in the World conference in New York City:
“Anyone who works in this White House is responsible for addressing why women are in the cross hairs of basically every single policy we've seen in this administration."
It is yet unclear whether Ivanka personally supports Planned Parenthood or not. She is known to hold her tongue publicly and voice her true opinions privately to her father.
She intimated as much in a recent interview with Gayle King on CBS:
“I would say not to conflate lack of public denouncement with silence,” she said. “I think there are multiple ways to have your voice heard. In some cases, it’s through protest and it’s through going on the nightly news and talking about or denouncing every issue on which you disagree with. Other times, it is quietly and directly and candidly. So where I disagree with my father, he knows it.”
What do you think about where Ivanka really stands? Do you think she is pro-life? Or do you think she is quietly trying to convince her father otherwise?
Let us hear your thoughts! Thank you!
