On Wednesday, May 2nd, Queen Elizabeth made special arrangements to meet the newest member of the royal family, Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge. Prince William and Duchess Kate’s third child was born on April 23 at 11:01 local time.
Traditionally, the queen would be the first person to be able to see the new member of the royal bloodline. This year, however, Queen Elizabeth II had to wait several days before being able to meet her sixth great-grandchild.
On Wednesday, the Queen took a private plane to Kensington Palace from Windsor. Originally, Prince William and Duchess Kate were scheduled to visit Windsor in order to also introduce their baby to Prince Philip. However, his worsening health caused for a change of plans. Thus, Queen Elizabeth II decided to visit Kensington instead.
The Queen brought along with her a simple gift: a bouquet of handpicked flowers. The gift is reportedly for Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton.
The members of the royal family are not keen on getting each other fancy gifts. In fact, every Christmas they have a tradition of buying each other humorous gag gifts rather than anything of value. They have found that the tradition keeps the holidays light and funny and spares them from having too many unnecessary items.
They noted that if they do give normal gifts, they are almost always homemade. Last year, Prince William noted that his children always made homemade gifts for the Queen.
He said, “We’ve tried making a few things, now the great-grandchildren are around you see they can make stuff and of course that goes down really well- doesn’t matter what it looks like, it just goes down really well.”
Not only does Queen Elizabeth II get to meet her great-grandchild today, she also gets to be with the family for Princess Charlotte’s third birthday! The royal family shared a special photo of Princess Charlotte to celebrate.
