The Huffington Post, A blog and aggregate news source is known for their unabashed liberal bias. It is no longer enough for them to attack Republicans and Conservatives anymore. They have now attempted to define what news is based on their bias.
In an announcement on the front page of their site, The Huffington Post declared they will no longer cover Donald Trump’s presidential campaign as news. The frontrunner in the early Republican polls will now be relegated to their “entertainment” section alongside the Kardashians and reality TV stars.
They defend their lack of journalistic integrity by stating, “Our reason is simple: Trump's campaign is a sideshow. We won't take the bait. If you are interested in what The Donald has to say, you'll find it next to our stories on the Kardashians and The Bachelorette.”
While this is not unexpected from a website such as this, it is the furthering of an agenda in which conservative topics and personalities are brushed aside or attacked by mainstream media.
The Huffington post is not a small time blog. Since its inception it has grown into a place that a lot of people go to directly for their news. Some estimates have them averaging over 200 million views a month.
Whether they like Donald Trump or not, his campaign is news. He is leading the polls and speaks to large crowds on his campaign stops. Though some of his statements might not be “politically correct”, they aren’t falling on deaf ears.
The Huffington Post have obviously deemed Trump newsworthy or they wouldn’t plaster their bold notice about him on the front page of their site. They are using their platform to make a statement about him. It is not the responsibility of any news site to decide the validity of today’s topics, but to report on them.
What do you think? Is Trump news? Did Huffington Post do the right thing? We would love to hear your thoughts!
