The boys’ soccer team and their coach, who became trapped in a cave on June 23rd after monsoon floods blocked their exit, now have food and medical help. But their climb to daylight faces a dangerous obstacle.
Thai Navy SEAL divers are with them now, according to Al Jazeera, and are providing them with high-energy foods. A SEAL commander said that seven team members are with the boys now.
“Among [the SEALs] is one doctor and a medical science nurse,” said SEAL commander Arpakorn Yookongkaew. “We have given the boys food, starting with easily digested and high-powered food with enough minerals,” he said at a news conference.
In order to reach daylight, the boys will have to learn how to dive in order to leave the complex, due to the floodwaters, said Thai military. The team would have to wait several months for the floodwaters to recede on their own.
“It is one of the plans (to dive out), said Arpakorn. “But if we are using this plan, we have to be certain that it will work and have to have a drill to ensure it’s 100 percent safe.”
During the search, divers had to retreat during the rising floodwaters time and again. When they arrived at a place where they thought the boys were located, it was empty. Divers continued to make painstaking advances through the dark, flood cave. They found the team about 400 meters farther inside the cave than originally thought.
The boys were pale and thin, found perched on a ledge inside the cave complex when British divers found them around 10:00 pm local time Monday.
“We are hungry … shall we go outside?” one of the boys said.
“Not today. Many people are coming. We are the first. … You’ve been here 10 days. You’re very strong.”
When Thailand received news that the boys were safe, they erupted in jubilation. One of the fathers was speechless, reacting to the news.
“I can’t express how I feel. It’s stunning and I’m very proud – I never expected this day to come,” said Adisak Wongsukchan, one of the fathers.
Please pray for the safety of the boys as they undergo this perilous attempt to make it out of the cave. Be sure to read about the controversial decision Walmart made to sell political apparel aimed at President Trump, and the reaction by several Americans because of it.
