Teenage Star Athlete Sent Into Surgery After Crashing at 171 MPH, Caught on Camera

Over the weekend, a worldwide audience was shocked when race car driver Sophia Floersch got in a horrible airborne crash. The 17-year-old clipped another car and her vehicle was launched through the air into a fence.

The crash took place at the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix. Now, an update has been given on the professional driver's health. According to CBS News, Floersch suffered from a spinal fracture.

On Monday, November 19, the teenager was sent into surgery. She gave an update to her followers on Twitter. 

Floersch wrote, "Just wanted to let everybody know that I am fine but will be going into surgery tomorrow (Monday) morning...Update soon."

According to reports, Floersch was driving at around 171 miles-per-hour when the crash occurred. Thankfully, her injuries were relatively minor compared to what they could have been.
