An offensive and disturbing assignment handed out to 12 year-old students by a Spanish class teacher has a group of parents up in arms.
The students were given a survey to fill out in which they were asked “How much privilege do you have?” and to fill out the boxes that applied to them.
The survey was broken down into several categories, including “Race,” “Skin Color,” “Religion,” “Sex,” “Gender,” “Sexual Orientation,” and “Disability.” According to the Blaze, the survey also breaks down each category into many non-traditional options.
Under the “sex” category the options are: Male, Female, and Intersex. The “gender” category has more complicated options including: Cisgendered, Transgendered, and Genderqueer. The “sexual orientation” category gets downright confusing. The options are: Straight, Homosexual, Bisexual, Asexual, and Pansexual.
A mother of one of the students, Gina Stiles, thinks that the assignment is inappropriate. “To me that has nothing to do with Spanish,” Stiles said. “You’re here to teach my child a foreign language, not anything else.”
Following the parents complaints, the teacher has been removed from the classroom and an investigation has been opened.
What would you do if your child came home with that assignment?
