Taye diggs, an actor, discusses his legendary career in an upcoming TV One episode titled “Uncensored”. Taye says he’s been called a “heartthrob” and a “white boy.” Taye said it was “painful.”
Diggs states, in a clip taken from the interview: “Being called a ‘white boy… it was painful, however… It was painful. Once I understood how to manipulate situations I began to study people so that they don’t make me feel less. So when I realized that some Black students at school were calling my ‘white’, I made it about them. I didn’t change who they were and just tried harder.
Diggs continues by explaining how women on the street would even tell Diggs that they knew he dated only white girls. Watch:
He recalls that it was a memorable trip because he remembers when he moved to New York, people didn’t even know anything about me. Women would then say, “You only date white girls, huh?” Before they knew anything about my history. I never got all the answers I wanted. But I would dig deep and ask them why they said that. It’s like you don’t know… You don’t have …. Do you think it’s because I speak like that? [They would say]”No. It’s just a feeling that I get.”
He wonders if it was their anxiety. It happened more times than I can remember.
Taye later married Idina Menzel (a White woman), fulfilling what many people believed about him. . .
