Over the weekend, a mass explosion occurred at a weapons depot in the town of Sarmada, Syria — located in the Harem District, Idlib Governorate of Syria. The explosion tragically took the lives of dozens of local civilians.

According to the Telegraph, the death toll was originally at 12. However, after more bodies were discovered under rubble, the death toll dramatically rose to 39 with at least a dozen of them being children.

Thankfully, quick rescue efforts were responsible for saving a number of other adults and children in the area. Without their brave efforts, the death toll would have been much higher.

Unfortunately, the cause of the mysterious explosion remains unknown as of 6:30 PM ET on Sunday.

This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available to the public.

Please keep the victims’ families in your prayers during this difficult time. May God bring them peace and comfort.
