According to police, a suspect has been arrested in the death of rapper XXXTentacion.
The man, Dedrick D. Williams, was taken into custody Wednesday according to the New York Daily News – just two days after the artist was gunned down in South Florida.
On Monday afternoon, XXXTentacion, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, was leaving RIVA Motorsports in his BMW when a man fatally shot him in Deerfield Beach, According to ABC affiliate Local 10 News.
The gunman was wearing a red mask; he and an accomplice fled in a black Dodge Journey. Williams was taken into custody Wednesday, just two days after Onfroy was murdered.
Charges for Williams, 22, include first-degree murder, a probation violation for theft of a motor vehicle, and driving without a license.
According to Rolling Stone, XXXTentacion’s songs hit the Top 40 three different times in 2018 in less than six months. But the controversial rapper was plagued by drama off the stage.
He was hit with troubling charges for violent offenses, including armed robbery and beating an ex-girlfriend. In December 2017, he was charged with 15 felony counts in connection to a 2016 domestic abuse case.
The 20-year-old was on house arrest until March, but a date for his trial had not yet been set at the time of his death.
