Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was recently honored by the Heritage Foundation for his 25 years on the Supreme Court. Justice Thomas is known for rarely speaking while court is in session. However, when discussing the state of the nation, he had some very strong words.
Justice Thomas revealed that he believes that the public no longer trusts the federal government. According to McClatchy DC, Thomas also revealed that he believes Washington D.C. is “broken in some ways.”
“At some point we are going to have to recognize that we are destroying our institutions,” Justice Thomas said. Thomas didn’t just pass the blame on to other branches of government. He also admitted that Supreme Court is partially responsible for the state of the nation. “What have we done to gain their confidence?” Justice Thomas asked.
The direction of the Supreme Court is one of the major issues in the upcoming election. If Hillary Clinton gets elected and she appoints justices, the Supreme Court could turn liberal and stay that way for the next several decades. On the other hand, Donald Trump vows to appoint conservative Supreme Court justices
Do you agree with Justice Thomas about the state of our nation? Have you lost confidence in the Supreme Court?
