Super Bowl LIII Half Time Singer Officially Confirmed and Thousands Are Upset

Super Bowl Sunday is one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year. Family and friends gather together to watch some competitive football, eat an overwhelming amount of junk food, and, of course, enjoy the always-entertaining halftime show.

In the past, many people have admitted watching the Super Bowl specifically for the halftime show. Each year, a famous singer or band takes the center field with a dramatic performance and a mixture of their top songs.

Now, the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show performer has officially been announced. According to People, Maroon 5 will be this year’s headliner!

Along with Maroon 5, both Travis Scott and Big Boi of Outkast will be performing. In September, rumors emerged about Maroon 5 potentially being this year’s headliner. However, lead singer Adam Levine would not confirm the news.

He had previously said, “I’m still formulating a lot of things,” and “It’s [a] rumor. I can neither confirm nor deny the truth of this rumor. It’s definitely a rumor. And the rumor that everyone seems to be discussing."

Finally, after months of speculation, the band has confirmed their half time slot! The took to their social media accounts to confirm with the simple caption, “SBLIII.”

This will be the band’s first Super Bowl performance. Their most recent album was released in November 2017. For the past 15 years, the popular band has been producing hit records, receiving three Grammy Awards along the way. Now, they have the opportunity to grow their craft in a new way!

Maroon 5’s participation in the NFL halftime show has drawn extreme controversy since the rumors circulated in the fall. Several people were upset, noting the tension regarding several NFL player’s decisions to kneel during the pre-game national anthem.

According to ABC, over 84,000 have signed a petition asking the band to turn down the opportunity. As soon as the news emerged that Maroon 5 had confirmed their spot, hundreds immediately took to Twitter to express their disappointment. People were upset either because they don't agree with the NFL or because they don't think that the particular band will do a good job!
