Stephen King received criticism after making an insensitive remark about first lady Melania Trump's recent surgery, according to Fox News.
On Monday, the first lady underwent surgery for a benign kidney condition that is expected to leave her immobile for the rest of the week. The media has been very kind and respectful of Melania Trump's privacy during this time. Shortly after news of Melania's surgery broke headlines, however, Stephen King went to Twitter to make an insensitive comment.
"Not to be snarky, but Melania can probably use a week’s rest from Blabbermouth Don," King tweeted. "Sounds heavenly to me."
After making the comment, numerous people on Twitter reacted with anger. "Where's the civility?" asked one Twitter user.
The White House has claimed that the first lady is recovering very well, although they have not provided the news media with details regarding her recovery, noting that privacy is very important. Vice President Mike Pence claims that the procedure is "long planned," putting to rest speculation that the first lady was rushed into emergency surgery.
Trump, who turned 48 last month, had been experiencing an issue with her kidney that her office claims required medical attention.
Melania Trump was last seen in public on Wednesday at a White House event where she and President Trump honored military mothers and spouses for Mother's Day. She later accompanied Trump to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland in order to welcome home three Americans who had been detained in North Korea.
On Tuesday morning, President Trump claimed that first lady Melania Trump is "doing really well." He added that she will be leaving the hospital in about 3 days.
"Thank you for so much love and support" he tweeted.
