The death of actress and model Stefanie Sherk, Demián Bichir‘s wife, has been ruled a suicide, the L.A. County Medical Examiner-Coroner confirmed PEOPLE. One of the causes of death was listed as drowning.
On Wednesday, the sad news broke Canadian actress and model Stefanie Sherk had sadly passed away, reported The Hollywood Reporter. Her husband, Demian Bichir, announced her death in a heartbreaking message on Instagram.
He made the sad post on Wednesday. He said he was overwhelmed by sadness after she died unexpectedly.
"It has been the saddest and toughest time of our lives and we don't know how much time it will take for us to overcome this pain," Bichir, who is a Mexican actor, said in his post, accompanied by a picture of Sherk. "It is our sincerest hope that our beautiful Stefanie, my angel and love of my life, will rest in eternal peace."
He wrote that Sherk died "peacefully" on Saturday. She was 43. Bichir did not reveal how his wife died. He asked for respect for his privacy and family during his time of mourning.
The couple started their relationship in 2010. They did not have children together, but Bichir has a daughter, Gala, born in 2011.
Sherk was born in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. She appeared in the films Star Power, Valentine's Day, and Loco Love. She also starred on the television shows #Hashtag: The Series, CSI: Cyber and Telenovela.
Bichir is an Oscar-nominated. The 55-year-old was nominated for best actor Oscar in 2012 for his role in Chris Weitz's A Better Life.
