Let them eat! Many stars spend hours in the audience each year as they honor and celebrate their peers at awards shows. Although some ceremonies like the Golden Globes provide food and drinks for the crowd, others are completely devoid.
Even when food is served, the meal service ends before people are in their seats to avoid clogging the dishes and utensils during the televised portion. Stars who are still making their way down red carpets close to showtime often miss the meal entirely.
Many celebrities have made it a point to bring food to award shows that are not food-based, such as the Oscars. Take, for example, Melissa McCarthyWhen she arrived at the Golden Globes in January 2019 with 40 sandwiches for hungry stars, she made headlines. Nominated for her contributions to the field Can You Ever Forgive Me?, McCarthy procured the meals from Los Angeles restaurant Joan’s on Third and left the ceremony with just two of the tasty treats. The other way around, fellow audience members were clearly delighted that someone thought of bringing snacks!
However, stars aren’t the only ones doing their part to stave off grumbling stomachs. In recent years, hosts of various awards shows have made a concerted effort to make sure the audience isn’t starving. The trend towards food-bearing hosts probably started in 2006. Ellen DeGeneresHe helmed 2014’s Academy Awards and hosted a star-studded crowd. Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep Jennifer Lawrence to fresh pizza slices. She was able to do it by hilariously getting the Italian classic delivered directly to Dolby Theater, where she was performing the ceremony.
