Slime spree! One of the best parts of Nickelodeon’s annual Kids’ Choice Awards is seeing A-list stars covered in the network’s signature neon-green goo.
Fans have watched everyone. Chris PrattAnd JoJo SiwaTo Sandra BullockAnd Orlando Bloomspray the gooey substance. Halle Berry, John CenaAnd even more Harrison FordThe iconic slime session has already claimed many lives.
“You’re never exactly ready for it, it’s always a surprise,” Kids’ Choice Awards executive producer Jay Schmalholz told TVInsider in March 2018 of the show’s most memorable prank. “It does get in everywhere — you’ll be finding it for a couple of weeks. But it’s super fun. You can’t help but smile and feel like a little kid.”
Schmalholz revealed the best part about sliming someone is watching the star’s reactions. “The aftermath is fantastic, watching them get de-slimed,” he said. “We go through thousands and thousands of towels. It’s an art form. We’ve got Slime Masters who have gotten really good at it.”
Pratt was elated to have won Favorite ButtKicker March 2019, and he gave his acceptance speech. “There’s a lot of fun. There’s a lot of slime,” he said before the green goo spurted at him. “Well, it’s still worth it!”
He later thanked his fans for their votes via Instagram, joking, “Now [if] you’ll excuse me I’ve got slim to clean out from deep within my nostrils.”
When Camila CabelloThe boyfriend Shawn MendesThey took home the orange trophy for Favorite Musical Collaboration, but they were unable get slimed as the show was performed virtually during the coronavirus pandemic.
“This is so cool! I literally have watched the Kids’ Choice Awards for forever. I wish we were there to get slimed,” the Canadian crooner said in May 2020.
However, the former Fifth Harmony singer made it clear that the couple would honor the tradition by making their own version of the goo. “We love you. Thank you so much for voting. We’re going to make organic slime and slime ourselves,” she said.
Siwa, on the other hand, didn’t let the pandemic restrictions keep her from getting slimed at home in May 2020. Siwa actually got the green stuff all over her house as she celebrated Slime Day in honour of her Favorite Social Music Star win.
