Starmer concerned by UK’s Commonwealth influence

Boris Johnson, prime minister, updated MPs in a statement to House of Commons about his engagement at the G7, Commonwealth, and Nato summits.

Johnson told the House of his pleasure at the outcome of summits, including the joining of Finland and Sweden to Nato, but admitted “not every member of the Commonwelath sees Putin’s aggression as we do”.

Labour leader Keir Starmer described this particular issue as a “humiliating diplomatic failure”, otherwise welcoming the support that the UK and fellow nations are providing Ukraine in general.
