Horrible news was reported on Thursday, October 4. A beloved former football star has passed away at the young age of 22.
C. J. Fuller was a running back for Clemson University and was one of the most important players on their 2016 National Championship team. Throughout his athletic career, he played 43 successful collegiate level games.
Sadly, while Fuller was an impressive athlete, he made poor decisions off of the field. According to TMZ, the athlete was arrested last March after being accused of robbing someone at gunpoint.
At this point, little information has been given regarding Fuller’s death. However, Coach Dabo Swinney released a statement about the tragedy.
He wrote, “Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies are with C.J.’s family. I’ve known C.J. a long time and watched him grow up through the Easley rec league [in South Carolina] all the way through Easley High School.”
He continued, “I’m proud of what he accomplished as a Clemson Tiger, most of all his accomplishment of being a Clemson graduate. Our deepest condolences and the thoughts of our program are with his family this evening. May he rest in peace.”
Fuller’s former teammate, Shaq Lawson. wrote, “Somebody wake me up from this nightmare. My brother was supposed to come see me tomorrow. I love you bruh until we meet again.”
