Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Paul Ryan was involved in a deadly train crash Wednesday morning. Among other Republican U.S. Congress members and their families, Ryan witnessed an awful tragedy.
The Republicans were on their way to a GOP retreat in West Virginia when the Amtrak suddenly crashed into a garbage truck. Although passengers aboard the train only suffered minor injuries, the crash had a dramatic impact on the passengers of the truck.
The driver tragically passed away on the scene while receiving treatment and the other two passengers were injured.
Since the incident, several politicians have spoken out about the crash including Rep. Steve Scalise and Vice President Mike Pence. Speaker Paul Paul Ryan also released a statement shortly after the tragic news was revealed to the public.
Ryan stated, “Today’s incident was a terrible tragedy. We are grateful for the first responders who rushed to the scene.”
“We pray for the victims and their families,” he continued. “May they all be in our thoughts right now.”
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
