Former president Barack Obama knowingly provided taxpayer aid to an Islamic terrorist affiliate, giving them hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to a new report released Wednesday.
According the National Review, the Middle East Forum discovered that the Obama administration approved a grant of $200,000 to an al-Qaeda affiliate in Sudan.
Even more troubling was the knowledge that government officials released at least $115,000 of the grant after they had learned that it was a designated terrorist organization. The affiliate, known as the Khartoum-based Islamic Relief Agency (ISRA) was affiliated with Osama bin Laden and Maktab al-Khidamat (MK), which eventually became al-Qaeda, according to The Daily Wire.
In July 2014, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) approved $723,405 of U.S. taxpayer funds to go to World Vision Inc. Out of that money, $200,000 was directed to ISRA, a sub-grantee, according to the report.
In that same year, before the money was granted, World Vision had informed the USAID that the ISRA was on the designated terrorist organization list and had to wait for the U.S. Treasury Department to assess whether they could receive the money.
On May 7, 2015, the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued license to a World Vision affiliate, World Vision International, which authorized a “one-time transfer of approximately $125,000 to ISRA,” according to the report.
Under the Obama administration, terrorist organizations increased in strength. The Hill reported that in 2014, ISIS was present in seven countries—the year that the United States began its campaign against the group. By 2016, that figure had increased to 18 countries.
