Some devastating news was reported this week out of Kenya. Soni Methu, a journalist and former host of CNN’s “Inside Africa,” died at a young age.
Methu was only 34-years-old at the time of her death. CNN reported that the young journalist’s death was sudden and unexpected.
Her sister, Faith, reported that Soni collapsed suddenly at a hotel. She was experiencing extreme stomach pain. While she was rushed to the hospital, she passed away. As of Sunday, her cause of death was still unknown.
CNN released a statement about the loss.
They wrote, “We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of our friend and former colleague Soni Methu. Our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends, from all at CNN.”
According to Yahoo!, Soni Methu was CNN’s first Kenyan host. She was the host for “Inside Africa” between 2014 and 2015 and the show is still running to this day, making it CNN International’s longest-running program.
CNN noted that the young journalist “had a great energy, an ability to light up the room and was incredibly kind to those she worked with as well as people she met in her travels.”
