Inflation at the consumer price index (CPI), which measures inflation, rose to 9.4 percent in June due to rising petrol and food prices. This was a new 40-year high.
The latest inflation increase was caused by the sharpest single-month rise in petrol prices (at least 1989) and food price inflation (at a 13 year high of 9.8 percent).
