So-Called Feminist Bashes Ivanka For Her Clothing Choices

On Sunday, Joan Walsh, who used to be an editor for Salon and currently contributes to MSNBC, appeared on MSNBC live to complain about Ivanka Trump and her clothing. She started the interview by questioning Ivanka's motivations to help women.

“I think that there’s one woman benefiting from Ivanka’s crusade for women, and that’s Ivanka Trump herself. That 50-million-dollar fund for women entrepreneurs is being controlled by her; the fact that she doesn’t take a salary only reflects her own great wealth, thanks partly, or largely to her father, and when she’s tried to go to bat for us, allegedly."

Walsh also bashes Ivanka for her pro-life stance, “Her solution to the defunding of Planned Parenthood was to tell Cecile Richards to stop performing abortions,” said Walsh derisively, “That was her brilliant compromise.”

Walsh goes on to say that Ivanka isn’t a good representative for women in a White House. In Walsh’s mind, Ivanka is “completely ineffectual” just because she isn’t doing the kinds of things that Walsh would like her to do.

But Walsh doesn’t just stop there. She stooped to commenting on what Ivanka wore when she sat in for her father at the G20.

Walsh said, “With big bows on her sleeve. I mean, I don’t mean to sound sexist — it can be dangerous to comment on what women wear — but the fact that she sat in for her father in a dress that was so incredibly ornamental was such a contradiction in terms”, Walsh said. “And I think that what we see is that in patriarchal, authoritarian societies, daughters have great value — they are property. And the message that she is sending about her own value, about her place in the White House, and about the place of women in this administration, I think, are really frightening.”

She ridiculously objected to Ivanka’s dress because it was pink, so it couldn’t possibly be a dress that a serious woman would wear. People on Twitter also reacted with disbelief when they heard her ludicrous objection to Ivanka's outfit.

In a patronizing tone, Walsh continued, “That’s not a dress that’s made for work. That’s not a dress that’s made to go out in the world and make a difference. That is a dress that is designed to show off your girliness, and, you know, God bless her, show it off, but don’t then tell us that you’re crusading for an equal place for women at the table because you’re not.”

The interviewer went on to ask her if you couldn’t be girlie and a feminist. She said you could, but then continued to bash Ivanka. Apparently, you can be both a crusader for women and girlie as long as you aren’t a conservative woman. Just another ridiculous example of how people on the left continue to attack the Trump family at every turn. You think they'd celebrate the way Trump values his daughter, but instead, they criticize it at every turn. I guess Conservative women just can't win.
