The country of Slovenia, known for its scenic views, sloping vineyards, green forests, and good looking people, is also the birthplace of the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump. Although she has not been to her hometown since 2002, Slovenia has recently been singing her praises for the positive impact she has had on the country.
Since the First Family joined the White House back in January, there has been an increase in tourism for the small European nation of Slovenia. Reports have shown that there has been a 15 percent rise in tourists coming to visit the First Lady’s beautiful place of birth.
Melania was born in Slovenia in 1970 and grew up in the town of Sevnica. In 1996, she moved to the United States as she followed her modeling career to New York. In the year 2006, Melania became a citizen of the United States.
The Slovenian Statistics Office reports that almost 1,939,000 people have visited the country since the beginning of this year. That is a huge influx of people in a town of 2 million residents.
According to ABC News, tourist agencies are making the most of this increase by organizing “on the footsteps of Melania Trump,” which will take people on a tour of where she worked, studied, and lived. Tourism websites are also trying to foster the new found growth by advertising on their sites: "Welcome to the homeland of the new First Lady of the United States of America!"
Since it’s split from Yugoslavia in 1991, Slovenia has become one of most popular nature destinations for its breath taking natural beauty. The country offers tourists the scenic views of the Alps and well as the coastline of the Adriatic Sea.
