The tragic event that occurred in a Florida high school, where a shooter killed 17 people in a mad killing spree, has rocked the nation. Social media has been filled with posts about the incident and individuals offering their ideas on how to better protect our nation from gun violence.
In the aftermath of the Florida shooting, one heart-wrenching story is now being revealed. According to reports, one of the teachers who perished in the shooting had previously told his fiancee what to say if he was ever to be killed in such an attack.
Scott Beigel’s fiancee, Gwen Gossler, told mourners at his funeral on Sunday that they were watching news coverage of another school shooting when he made the comment, reported the Huffington Post.
“Promise me if this ever happens to me, you will tell them the truth — tell them what a jerk I am, don’t talk about the hero stuff,” Gossler said Beigel teased, according to the New York Post’s account of the service at Temple Beth El in Boca Raton.
“OK, Scott, I did what you asked,’’ Gossler continued tearfully. “Now I can tell the truth. You are an amazingly special person. You are my first love and my soulmate.’’
Gossler and her fiancee's family opened up about what an amazing life Scott had. They said his life was not defined in a moment of heroism, but that his entire life was heroic and he did he best to help anyone he could.
It was reported that Scott was killed while letting students into his classroom as the shooter roamed the halls. Before Scott had a chance to lock the door again, he was shot. At this time, there is no immediate count as to how many students he saved but he is still being praised as an amazing hero!
