Yesterday, a grave tragedy happened in Florida. A teen walked into a school in Parkland, Florida, and killed 17 people and injured another 14.
Now the BBC reports that the FBI had a prior warning about the shooter, Nikolas Cruz. Cruz, who was arrested at the shooting, has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder.
Last year, he reportedly left a comment on a YouTube video last year stating: "I'm going to be a professional school shooter."
A youtube user was concerned by the statement. He alerted authorities to the post. Likewise, Teachers were also warned about Cruz, who was not allowed on campus with a backpack.
The attack took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Of the fourteen people who were injured, several are in critical condition. It is the deadliest shooting at a United States school since 2012.
After seeing a comment on a YouTube post last year by Cruz, 19, user Ben Bennight contacted the FBI with his concerns. He said he spoke to representatives there for about 20 minutes.
Bennight said that the FBI contacted him again following the school shooting in Parkland. The FBI has not commented on the reports.
Teachers at the high school had also been warned about Cruz. His math teacher Jim Gard told the Miami Herald that school authorities had emailed teachers about Cruz's behavior.
"We were told last year that he wasn't allowed on campus with a backpack on him," Gard told the Miami Herald.
He added, "There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus."
Cruz had been expelled from the school, which has 3,000 students. School officials have not disclosed why Cruz was expelled from the school, but it seems to have been over violence.
A student Victoria Olvera, 17, told the Associated Press it was because of a fight with his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend. She also claimed that he had been abusive towards the ex-girlfriend.
Former schoolmate Joshua Charo also said Cruz had been found with bullets in his backpack.
"I can't say I was shocked," Charo added. "He seemed like the kind of kid who would do something like this."
Please pray for everyone affected by the shooting. It's a terrible tragedy that has impacted countless people. This is how President Trump addressed the shooting.
