Shanann Watts’ Friend Speaks Out After the Murder, Reveals Chilling Details About Watts’ Final Days

A Colorado mother of two who was 15 weeks pregnant with her third child, 34-year-old Shanann Watts, was tragically murdered by her husband Chris Watts in mid-August. Their two young daughters, 4-year-old Bella and 3-year-old Celeste, were also killed by their father.

The tragic story made national headlines. Much of the public was stunned that the husband who was once pleading for his family’s safe return turned out to be the “bad guy” in an unexpected twist of events.

Shortly after the public’s discovery of Shanann’s and her girls’ disappearance, Chris confessed to murdering his beloved family. His wife’s body was discovered in a shallow grave while his daughters’ bodies were submerged in an oil tank — all three bodies found on company property.

The last person to see Shanann before she disappeared was her good friend Nicole Atkinson. In a newly-released interview, Nicole revealed chilling details about her friend’s final days.

On the evening of the tragedy, Atkinson picked up Shanann from the airport then dropped her off at her house around 2:00 AM — just moments before her home became the scene of her own murder. The next morning, Nicole became extremely concerned when Shanann wasn’t responding to her and missed her prenatal doctor appointment.

“She was going to get to hear that heartbeat and see how he or she was doing,” her friend said.

Nicole admitted she suspected Chris from the very beginning. There were several details leading to him as the suspect, including the fact that he didn’t seem genuinely worried about his family’s disappearance.

“[Chris] just kept saying he didn’t know where she was — that she was on a playdate, but he couldn’t give us a name of the friend,” Nicole added.”[Security footage] showed Chris leaving that morning and there was no movement in between those time of me dropping her off, Chris leaving, and me coming back...there was something seriously wrong.”

Additionally, their marriage was strained. In the weeks leading up to the murders, Chris was less affectionate than usual and Nicole said Shanann “entertained the idea” of him having an affair.
