Abundant BordersThe network of community gardens in Scotland called ‘Community Gardens Network’ wants everyone to have access healthy food. It has established growing spaces in allotments, housing developments, and in towns since 2016.

The group also transformed a disused, weed-covered area behind the Hawick Salvation Army community shop into a thriving food gardening garden. It grows herbs, peas, root vegetables, soft fruits, root veggies, aubergines, and other vegetable.

Chief officer Karen Birch describes the project’s volunteers: “People who like to be outdoors, potter about and share a blether and a cuppa in good company.”
