Republican Senator John McCain from Arizona was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer, earlier this year. Since his diagnosis in July, McCain has gone back and forth between cancer treatments and his political duties, remaining in decent health given the circumstances.
Unfortunately, McCain was admitted to the hospital again earlier this week. His office released a statement confirming he was receiving treatment for “normal side effects of his ongoing cancer therapy,” reported Fox News.
According to CNN, sources previously noted that McCain has been "looking increasingly frail" in recent days. During meetings, he has remained more silent than usual and appears to be very "fatigued" at times.
Following the news of his hospitalization, many sent over their well wishes to Senator McCain including White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
President Donald Trump also called the Senator's wife, Cindy McCain, on Friday to check on his condition and personally send over his best wishes, reported CNBC.
McCain’s office stated, “As ever, he remains grateful to his physicians for their excellent care, and his friends and supporters for their encouragement and good wishes. Senator McCain looks forward to returning to work as soon as possible.”
According to Fox, McCain is expected to return to work next week for the tax vote.
