Major Update on Sen. John McCain After He Was Hospitalized for Scary Infection

Last Monday, Senator John McCain, who has been undergoing treatment for brain cancer, was admitted to the hospital for emergency surgery. On Monday, April 23, his wife sent out a tweet to inform his supporters that he's safely out of the hospital.

According to the tweet by Cindy McCain, he has returned to his home near Sedona, Arizona. She also posted a photo of a stream with the announcement.

She wrote, "SenJohnMcCain and I are home in our beloved Hidden Valley enjoying a glorious Arizona sunset."

It is still unclear when McCain will return to his duties in the Senate.

Senator John McCain, who has been undergoing treatment for brain cancer, had to have surgery over the weekend. In the photo below, he's seen in March with his daughter. The photo shows how much his cancer has worn him down. 

The Republican senator was admitted to Mayo Clinic in Phoenix on Sunday. According to his office, he underwent a surgery to rest an intestinal infection related to diverticulitis.

McCain is in stable condition, assured the statement from his office.

His office released the following statement:

On Sunday, Senator McCain was admitted to Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, and underwent surgery to treat an intestinal infection related to diverticulitis. He is in stable condition.

Over the last few months, Senator McCain has been participating in physical therapy at his home in Cornville, Arizona, as he recovers from the side effects of cancer treatment. He has remained engaged on his work as Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and has enjoyed frequent visits from his family, friends, staff and Senate colleagues.

Senator McCain and his family are grateful to the senator’s excellent care team, and appreciate the support and prayers they continue to receive from people all over the country.
