Some disturbing news was reported this week out of Bozeman, Montana. According to reports, around 40,000 pounds of bees escaped a semi truck.

The truck crashed on Monday after taking a hard turn. The truck was reportedly traveling from California to North Dakota. It was carrying around 40,000 pounds of bees and was transporting them to their new home.

KLFY reported that 40,000 pounds would be equivalent to around 133 million bees.

Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Pat McLaughlin said that there was no immediate threat to public safety at the time of the crash. However, anyone that witnessed the crash must have been terrified!

CNN wrote, "A semi-truck carrying 40,000 pounds of honeybees crashed on a rural intersection near Bozeman, Montana. No humans were injured in the crash, but swarms of the insects saw their chance for escape."

According to CNN, the Hyalite assistant fire chief Brian Nickolay said that his department had never been called for something like this. He said that by the time the fire crew arrived, the driver and passenger were safely out of the truck.

Nickolay also said that not all of the bees escaped the scene. Instead, he estimates that around a quarter of them actually were set loose.
