Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter made an appearance The annual Met Gala on Monday night. She joined the big names of the entertainment industry at the Catholic-themed event.
Princess Beatrice is the daughter of Queen Elizabeth's son Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah, Duchess of York. The 29-year-old princess wore a royal purple with full sleeves and gold accents.
She isn't the first royal to attend the event, which was hosted by Amal Clooney, Rihanna, and Donatella Versace. In recent years, royal attendees have included Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece, Charlotte Casiraghi, and Queen Rania of Jordan. This is Princess Beatrice's first time attending the gala.
Another royal closer to Beatrice's heart attended the event 22 years ago. Her aunt, Princess Diana, attended the 1996 Met Gala alongside friend and former Harper’s Bazaar editor Liz Tilberis.
Like Beatrice, she opted for a deep royal color. She wore a simple navy dress with black straps, which was part John Galliano’s debut couture collection for Dior. She carried a navy Dior bag and wore a pearl, diamond and sapphire choker around her neck.
Like Diana, Beatrice opted for a more simple gown than the other attendees. She also chose to not wear a tiara.
Beatrice lives in New York City, but she has a lot to do back in England in the coming months. On May 19th, her cousin Prince Harry will marry American Meghan Markle. Later in the year, her sister Eugenie is set to marry her fiancé Jack Brooksbank.
