Met Gala mania! With fashion’s biggest night right around the corner, over-the-top gowns, outrageous ensembles and show-stopping stilettos are the only thing on the brain.
The event, which is taking place on Monday, May 2, is sure to deliver a fabulous fashion fix — especially given the star-studded list of attendees.
While bits and pieces remain a surprise, it’s safe to say that the evening’s hosts, include Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan ReynoldsAnd Lin-Manuel Miranda, will bring out all the style stops to saunter up the steps of The Met with this year’s theme, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” The co-chairs will be joined by VogueEditor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, designer Tom Ford Adam Mosseri.
We eagerly await the jaw dropping fashion that is sure to delight at this event. StylishI decided to take an in-depth look back at the wildest outfits worn to this so-called Super Bowl fashion show.
Extreme looks are almost an essential part of the culture big fashion event. With the imaginations of fashion’s most creative designers behind them, A-listers can — and do — show up in anything from buttless chaps to pope attire. But that’s what makes it so fun!
The “China: Through the Looking Glass” theme in 2015 brought forth some seriously wild looks. Sarah Jessica Parker arrived in a Philip Treacy headpiece and a custom H&M dress. Rihanna turned heads in a bright yellow Guo Pei Couture number that had a train over eight feet long. You could barely see! Solange Knowles’ head peeking out of her structured Giles dress.
In 2017, the Met paid tribute to the avant-garde with the theme “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.” Kendall Jenner left very little to the imagination in a totally see-through Le Perla dress while Rihanna once again dominated the event in a Rei Kawakubo number.
Possibly the funkiest theme of all was 2019’s “Camp: Notes about Fashion.” From Katy Perry‘s re-imagined chandelier number and Tiffany Haddish’s Michael Kors sparkly suit to Cardi B’s Thom Browne mattress dress, it’s nearly impossible to narrow down the wild looks.
These are just a handful of the coolest and most unique outfits that have stood out over the years. Scroll down to see the most bizarre, wildest and most outrageous looks that graced the Met Gala red carpet.
