Hillary and Bill Clinton's daughter Chelsea has a tendency to speak exactly what she and her mother believe on the campaign trail rather than veiling it in a political smokescreen. A recent example is when, last week, Chelsea said that it's a woman's fundamental right to kill her unborn child, and her legal ability to do so is what creates equality for women in America.
And now this.
Yesterday, Chelsea made it very, very clear to Americans — one-third of whom are gun owners — that her mother as president is going to be very strict on gun control and considers the NRA an enemy. And she's going to be able to push all sorts of measures through because Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia is no longer with us.
In an event in Maryland, Chelsea said, “It matters to me that my mom also recognizes the role the Supreme Court has when it comes to gun control. With Justice Scalia on the bench, one of the few areas where the Court actually had an inconsistent record relates to gun control. Sometimes the Court upheld local and state gun control measures as being compliant with the Second Amendment and sometimes the Court struck them down.”
But things are going to be different now, Chelsea says.
“So if you listen to Moms Demand Action and the Brady Campaign and the major efforts pushing for smart, sensible and enforceable gun control across our country, disclosure, have endorsed my mom, they say they believe the next time the Court rules on gun control, it will make a definitive ruling. So it matters to me that my mom is the only person running for president who not only constantly makes that connection but also has a strong record on gun control and standing up to the NRA.”
None of these views are a surprise from Hillary, but we don't always hear them stated so clearly from her own mouth.
