The sitcom aired four seasons between 1989 and 1993. It followed a group teen called Lopez, Thiessen, Gosselaar, and Thiessen. Elizabeth BerkleyDustin Diamond Lark VoorhiesThey navigated the highs and lows of high school.
A number of cast members moved on to the spinoff. The College Years: Saved by the Bell. They reunited again in 2020 for the Peacock revival, but it was almost impossible to get the reprisals.
Lopez and Berkley were confirmed as returning when the project was announced September 2019. Thiessen, however, exclusively spoke. Us Weekly the following month that she “didn’t know that was happening” at all ahead of the news.
However, Access HollywoodCohost teased in November 2019 by Gosselaar and Thiessen that they would appear in the revival. “Who says they weren’t included?” he exclusively told UseAt the time. “You’ve got to wait and find out.”
Voorhies explained her part during a February 2020 appearance. The Dr. Oz Show that she felt “a bit slighted and hurt when I was not invited to be part of” the new series. However, in October 2020, it was announced that Lisa would be returning to the role. She eventually joined Thiessen, Gosselaar, and Thiessen in reprising their roles.
Showrunner Tracey WigfieldIt was hinted at in November 2020 that Diamond might make a return appearance. “We talk about Screech’s character and there are little Easter eggs throughout the show of what he’s doing now, and you can find some if you look for them,” she said on the “TV’s Top 5” podcast. “And this season, he wasn’t tied to any of the new characters or anything. But that’s not to say it’s not open for the future, not knowing what stories will be or anything for a cameo maybe.”
Diamond was diagnosed with cancer several months later. He died in February 2021.
