White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders revealed on Saturday that she and her family had been denied service at a Virginia restaurant. Why? Because she works for President Trump.
Sanders wasn't the one who initially publicized the incident. She responded on Twitter after a server's post about her family being kicked out of the restaurant went viral.
Jaike Foley-Schultz, who said he is a waiter at the restaurant, took to Facebook shortly after the incident to share that he had served Sanders and her family “for a total of 2 minutes” before the owner asked them to leave.
Sanders confirmed the incident in a tweet. Her response was pure class, showing who had the high road in the situation.
“Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for [President Trump] and I politely left,” Sanders tweeted.
She pointed out: “Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so.”
According to The Hill, the incident as caused a variety of reactions from both supporters of the POTUS and critics. They've taken to the restaurant’s Facebook and Yelp pages to leave one- or five-star reviews.
One Facebook user wrote, "As a native Virginian, I am outraged at your shameful treatment of Sarah Sanders. As a regular visitor to Lexington, I will not be spending one red cent in your restaurant. Is your intolerant treatment of Ms. Sanders because of her political views/association any different from the treatment of blacks based on race in the Jim Crow South? I don’t think so."
Another wrote, "I’m shocked your staff allowed their hatred for the President of the United States to become so ugly as to deny entry to a woman who works as our nation’s Press Secretary, who merely gathers & reports the news, doesn’t make policy. Your staff showed unfair political bias & discrimination. By such a knee-jerk reaction, you have made your establishment a place where no one could feel safe...neither right, left or middle-of-the-road leaning customers. And this makes me sad."
