The sad news was reported over the weekend that TV star Sarah Hyland has experienced a loss in her family. The famous actress' young cousin, Trevor Canaday, was killed in a drunk driving accident.
The 14-year-old was killed on Saturday, December 1 in Omaha, Nebraska. According to Hyland, her cousin and uncle were hit by a drunk driver. As of Sunday, her uncle was still in the hospital awaiting surgery.
Hyland wrote, "This is my 14-year-old cousin Trevor. Yesterday, he was killed by a drunk driver. My Uncle is still in the hospital in need of more surgeries. PLEASE swipe up to help." The "Modern Family" star added a link to the family's GoFundMe account.
A local news source reported that the teenager, Trevor, was a 9th-grade student at Millard South High School. He reportedly was ejected from his dad's vehicle after they were hit by Jeffrey Eggeling. Eggeling, who was under the influence, ran a red light and crashed into the father and son's car.
According to the GoFundMe page, set up by Trevor's mother, Becky, and his sisters, Tessa and Zoee, the father and son were driving to a "show choir event and were involved in a serious car accident due to a drunk driver."
They continued, "Bryan, is recovering physically, but sadly Trevor has gained his wings and is singing and playing some crazy football in heaven. Trevor was a funny, smart, innovative, athletic, goofy kid and he was so loved."
The page continued, "His memory will live on in many ways. Please help us do this for the family now to help ease their suffering away from money to focus on healing emotionally."
