The U.S. government recently suffered a three-day shutdown following the failure of Democrats and Republicans to agree on certain immigration policies—specifically, regarding the DACA program and Trump’s infamous border wall.
Earlier this week, President Trump signed a bill that allowed the government three additional weeks of funding. However, if politicians cannot come to an agreement on the immigration plan by February 8th, more serious actions will be taken.
With less than two weeks left to reach a consensus, the opposing political parties are having a difficult time meeting in the middle. At the center of the feud lies President Trump and Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer of New York.
The feud escalated on Friday when the two exchanged heated comments via Twitter. After Schumer blasted Trump on social media, again, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders fired back at the Democratic Senator.
Schumer stated, “While [President Trump] finally acknowledged that the Dreamers should be allowed to stay here and become citizens, he uses them as a tool to tear apart our legal immigration system and adopt the wish list that anti-immigration hardliners have advocated for for years.”
Sanders weighed in, “Actually [Senator Schumer] America's legal immigration system has been torn apart for decades by Washington politicians like yourself who prefer open borders & sanctuary cities over law & order and popular, common sense reforms.”
