San Francisco Mayor Passes Away at the Age of 65

Ed Lee, mayor of San Francisco, died early Tuesday morning at the Zuckerberg general hospital. He was 65, reported Fox News.

“It is with profound sadness and terrible grief that we confirm that Mayor Edwin M. Lee passed away on Tuesday, December 12 at 1:11 a.m. at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital,” his office said in a statement. Family, friends and colleagues were at his side. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Anita, his two daughters, Brianna and Tania, and his family.”

Lee made waves when he stubbornly defied federal law and declared that San Francisco would be a sanctuary city, saying “San Francisco is and always will be a sanctuary city.”

This policy made national headlines when a deported illegal immigrant was released from a San Francisco jail, despite a federal request to detain him in 2015. Jose Ines Garcia Zarate shot and killed Kate Steinle on a San Francisco pier.

London Breed, the Board of Supervisors president, shall succeed him as the city’s acting mayor. Lee was the 43rd mayor of San Francisco.

Please pray for Ed Lee's family during this difficult time. Feel free to share your thoughts on our Facebook page.
