It's a sad day for Christian customers in America. One of the best Christian bookstores has just announced they are going to be shutting down all of their brick-and-mortar locations.
Lifeway Christian Resources has announced plans to close all 170 of their stores. However, they are still going to be in retail as they shift all their business to a digital platform.
"In a post on the retailer’s website, Lifeway called the decision a 'strategic shift of resources to a dynamic digital strategy.' It will continue to sell items through its website and a customer service 1-800 number," reported AL.
The company has been in business since 1891. They offer Bibles, Christian books and media, study guide, children's items, and other things of religious nature. They are very popular among American Christians.
"The company says it currently distributes resources in 164 nations and in more than 60 languages, but like other retailers, has seen diminishing foot traffic through stores as well as slipping sales at physical locations. Lifeway’s operating expenses exceeded sales by $35.5 million in 2017," according to reports.
Ultimately, the retailer said it was a difficult decision to make thanks to the many wonderful relationships they have with customers. However, it is the best bet for the company in the long run. The stores are set to close in various times over the coming months.
