The search for 15-year-old Riley Crossman has come to a tragic end. Police have arrested her mother's boyfriend for the death of Riley.
Riley had been missing since last week when police found her body. Andy J. McCauley Jr., 41, of Berkeley Springs, is charged with one count of murder, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department said Thursday afternoon at a press conference.
The Sheriff declined to provide details about the circumstances surrounding Crossman’s death. He declined to reveal details about the cause or location, but he said an autopsy is scheduled for Friday in Charleston.
Bohrer said Crossman’s body was found Thursday morning in Tuscarora Pike in Berkeley County. Officers from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, who were helping with the search, found her decomposed body “over an embankment in a rural mountain road section."
More than 300 people attended a candlelight vigil in Crossman’s memory on Thursday evening at Berkeley Springs State Park. They cried and prayed over the sad loss.
"She was able to love, show compassion to kids, that I wish all students could do at her age when I had her in sixth grade," said her former teacher Josh Rider, who also is a pastor.
"We come today acknowledging that we have lost an individual that we loved, but we come together as a family, and as a community and we are binded together by the Lord and the love that we have for one another," Rider said.
Please pray for her friends and family as they deal with her untimely death. This is a terrible tragedy.
