On Friday, May 25th, news broke that a beloved children’s author — Richard Peck — sadly passed away. Reports revealed that he actually died on the previous Wednesday, but news regarding his passing was not released to the public until a few days later.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Peck died in his New York City home following his battle with cancer. He was 84 years old at the time of his death.
Several of Peck’s books received awards and nominations. Both “A long way from Chicago” (1998) and “A Year Down Yonder” (2000) received the John Newbery Medal; “The River Between Us” (2003) was nominated for the National Book Award for Young People's Literature and the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children's Book Award.
Some of his other popular children’s books include “A Season of Gifts” (2009), “Secrets at Sea” (2011), and “The Best Man” (2016).
