Last week, we reported the sad news that Ric Flair, the WWE legend, had been rushed to the hospital after a “very serious” medical emergency.
Now, we have a hopeful update on the sports star. His wife told PEOPLE that he underwent surgery on Monday, and he is in recovery.
“He is out of surgery and in the recovery room. Doctors said the procedure was a success! Thank you to everyone for all your prayers and support during this difficult time,” Flair’s wife Wendy Barlow told PEOPLE.
Flair fell ill while in Atlanta. They reported that this incident comes just two years after he was placed in a medically induced coma for 11 days. At the time, his intestine had ruptured.
The illness delayed a planned medical procedure. However, the 70-year-old is expected to make a full recovery.
In a previous statement to PEOPLE on Friday, Barlow confirmed that “due to ongoing health complications, Ric was taken to the hospital and is expected to undergo a procedure tomorrow morning, after which he expects to fully recover.”
According to TMZ, the sports star was initially taken to the emergency room after experiencing health issues. The situation was relayed to them as being “very serious.”
Ric Flair has had several health issues in recent years. He was in the early stages of kidney failure and on the verge of congestive heart failure due to years of alcohol abuse.
Several people have taken to social media to share their thoughts and prayers after the news of Flair's situation broke. Below are some of the posts:
