On July 24th, a spokesperson for Justin Bieber announced that his latest world tour was cancelled “due to unforeseen circumstances”. Fans were devastated after the announcement and curious as to why he made such a sudden decision.
Following the announcement, Bieber apologized to his fans. Singer John Mayor also defended Bieber’s bold decision via social media by saying, “When someone pulls remaining dates of a tour, it means they would have done real damage to themselves if they kept going” and he “gives Justin two thumbs up for realizing it was time to call it.”
Despite Bieber previously being presented in a bad light by multiple news sources, the singer is actually very outspoken and unashamed of his belief in Jesus Christ. According to CBN News, his reason for cancelling his tour is related to his faith.
The news came shortly after Bieber posted a video of him on Instagram worshipping Jesus to a Hillsong United song, “Not Today.” Bieber is a faithful member of Pastor Carl Lentz’s Hillsong Church in New York City and reportedly “rededicated his life to Christ” recently.
Rumors circulated that Bieber’s tour cancellation was encouraged by Hillsong Church. However, the church released the following statement, “The recent announcement by Justin Bieber about (the cancellation of) his tour does not involve Hillsong Church.”
Additionally, CBN reported that an Australian media host claimed the cancellation is due to Bieber “wanting to reconnect with his faith.” The host also stated he “may be even planning to start his own church."
These reasonings have not yet been confirmed by Justin Bieber. Regardless, it is rare to have a young, outspoken Christian in the entertainment industry. This isn’t the first time Bieber has publicly praised God; In June, he preached about God’s goodness during the “One Love Manchester” benefit concert.
