Alana Nicole Donahue, 27, thought she was “just showing the kids a good time” when she decided to tow them in a plastic wagon behind her car. She pulled her daughter, 2, her son, 4, and her nephew, 8, round and round a busy roundabout.
According to the Register Guard, Donahue waved vehicles to go around her as she drove in circles around the roundabout, but traffic began to back up behind her. According to police logs, one driver even reported nearly hitting the wagon.
People driving by began confronting the woman about endangering the children, but she didn’t seem to care. One driver says she told them to “be an adult about it” before driving away. Eventually, someone called the cops, who charged her with three counts of reckless endangerment.
Lt. Scott McKee says Donahue didn’t think she had done anything wrong.
She reportedly told police she “didn’t understand what the problem was because she was only driving 5 mph.”
However, a witness says it looked like she was going closer to 30 mph. Another witness told the police that they saw Donahue’s 2-year-old daughter crying “when the wagon went up on two wheels at one point.”
Police report that Donahue was not intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, so it is unclear at this time why her judgment was so bad. The children were removed from her custody and given to a family member. She’s expected to appear in court next week.
