Mary Mara’s cause of death has been revealed after she passed away at the age of 61.

The drowning caused the death of the actress. “The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office performed a post-mortem examination on the decedent and determined that the decedent’s manner of death was an accident, due to asphyxiation, due to warm water drowning,” NYSP Troop D Public Information Officer Jack KellerOn Wednesday, June 29, 2009, per People.

Though TMZ previously reported that investigators believed it was possible Mara hit her head before her death, the police added, “There were no signs of any trauma to Mary’s body when she was found.”

First responders from Cape Vincent, New York found Mara around 8 a.m. on Sunday 26 June. According to a New York State police press release, emergency personnel responded in an attempt to save a woman who had been drowned in the St. Lawrence River. This river borders Canada. The actress was visiting Martha Mara in New York.

“The victim’s body showed no signs of foul play and was transported to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office,” law enforcement officials said in their statement.

The next day, the Ray Donovan alum’s rep, Craig DorfmanIn a statement,, confirmed her untimely death. Use Weekly.

“Mary was one of the finest actresses I ever met,” Dorfman told Uson Monday, June 27, “I still remember seeing her onstage in 1992 in Mad Forest Off-Broadway. She was funny, electric and a true individual. Everyone loved her. She will be missed.”

Mary’s Nash BridgesCostar Annette O’TooleAlso shared a warm sendup. “Mary Mara was funny, kind, brilliantly talented,” O’Toole wrote. “I am terribly sorry she has left us.”

Mary is survived by Katie Mersola, her stepdaughter, and her other sister Susan Mara. Scott Dailey was her brother-in-law. Christopher Dailey is her nephew.
