Rare Royal Privilege Enjoyed By Meghan Markle, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi Before Marrying Into Family

The royal family is known for their strict adherence to rules and regulations. Before they were even members of the family, two members of their family were allowed to break this rule. Both Meghan MarkleAnd Edoardo Mapelli MozziThey were allowed to walk to church to celebrate Christmas Day before they were married. This tradition is usually reserved for members of The Firm.

Before marriage, Markle and Mozzi were able to walk with their families to church.

This doesn’t really sound like a big deal, but it breaks tradition. The queen typically invites her partners to walk alongside the royal family after they get married. After their spring and summer weddings to members of the royal family, Mike Tindall and Kate Middleton both made their appearances in 2011.

Markle, however, turned heads in 2017 when, five months prior to Prince Harry’s wedding, she walked to church alongside her family in Norfolk. The newly-engaged couple walked alongside the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, an appearance that caused the press to dub them the “Fab Four.”

Markle wasn’t the only royal-to-be that enjoyed this privilege. Mozzi, a property developer proposed to Princess Beatrice on September 19, 2019. He spent Christmas that year with the royal family and accompanied them to church. The couple were married in July 2020 after their May ceremony was postponed by the pandemic.

The Royal Family’s Holiday Plans

This year, Queen Elizabeth will celebrate her first Christmas without her husband. Prince Phillip died in April this year. Buckingham Palace hasn’t made an official statement about the queen’s holiday plans, but it is reported that she will spend Christmas with her family, as usual, at her Norfolk estate, Sandringham.

However, Harry and Markle will not be invited. The invitation to the couple was extended to Sandringham to join the rest, but the Duke and Duchess will not be there.

“There’s a lot that goes into the logistics and the planning of the family Christmas, so of course, staff know that Harry and Meghan are not coming,” a royal source told Page Six. “If they were, they would have communicated it to their family by now. But this is Her Majesty’s first Christmas without her husband, so one would have hoped they would want to be with her.” Harry and Markle are not deliberately snubbing the queen; instead, it’s believed that they want to avoid the headlines and press frenzy that would inevitably accompany their trip.

Last year, the royals enjoyed the holidays apart, just like many others around the globe. The royal couple stayed at Windsor Castle for Christmas, which was the first time they had done this in 33 years.
