The NFL has been tarnished by scandals in recent years. Many players have broken the policies of the league and many have even been arrested for their decisions off the field.

Now, a former NFL star is set to be freed from prison after spending nearly two decades locked up. Rae Carruth is set to be released on October 22, 2018.

"Former Panthers receiver Rae Carruth will be released from prison on Oct. 22, less than 18 years after he was convicted for conspiracy to commit murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and using an instrument to destroy an unborn child," reported Sports Illustrated.

The former player served a long time behind bars for the crimes he committed. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to life as a civilian.

"Carruth's ex-girlfriend Cherica Adams – who was seven months pregnant with Carruth's son – was shot while driving her BMW in Charlotte on Nov. 16, 1999. The shooter was hired by Carruth," reported Sports Illustrated.

Carruth's son survived the attack and is turning 19 years old this November. His mother, Cherica Adams, passed away in 1999. Rae was charged with her murder.

"Carruth spoke to WBTV in Charlotte in February, expressing his desire to form a relationship with Chancellor. The former wide receiver said he wishes to have custody of his son, who has been raised by his maternal grandmother, Saundra Adams, since birth," according to reports.
