Friends Searching for Answers as New York Publicist Commits Suicide, Gone at 50

Sad news to report from New York. Please pray for the friends and family of Jeanine Pepler, who committed suicide Sunday night. She was 50 years old.

She died in Sag Harbor, taking her life the same way that Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain did earlier this month. Pepler was the publicist who represented acclaimed novelists Jay McInerney and Candace Bushnell.

Friends who know her said that her body was discovered by her boyfriend, artist Steve Miller, according to Page Six. Miller was unavailable for comment.

“He is just devastated, as are we all,” said a friend. “She seemed to be doing great.”

“They had a lot of plans for the future,” the source added.

Pepler was raised in Cape Town, South Africa. She came to New York in 1996 and worked in public relations. Some of her clients included Tina Brown, Michael Eisner, Julian Schnabel and Julie Taymor.

She was the founder and owner of AKA Life, her agency, after working for HBO in the 1990s, where she was involved with the production of Paradise Lost and other projects.

Following 9/11, she switched industries, taking a job as the Director of Publicity and Marketing at a publishing company called Ruggedland. In 2005 she founded AKA Life.

She was a well-rounded person, enjoying in her off time golf, white Burgundy, Betty’s Greek wraps and her “daily early morning romp in the dog run with Violet, her French bulldog,” according to her agency’s website.

Please pray for her family during this difficult time. In recent news, a royal family member sadly passed away, surrounded by friends and loved ones.
